Recently, Apple had its education event in New York with Phil Schiller, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, on stage. A couple goals were outlined at the start of the event, the first being the task of reinventing textbooks. Schiller proceeded to announce iBooks 2, a new experience for the iPad.
On the demo shown you can see 3D models, embedded videos and multi-touch gestures. Dictionary by tap on a word will get you photos and videos, not only text. Reviews at the end of chapters with pictures and questions, and if you get something wrong you get immediate feedback. You can take notes, highlight and turn these into "flashcards" for your readers to review later.
